Over-weight and Over-dimension Permits
All vehicles travelling on Central Otago District Council’s (CODC) roads must comply with the dimension and performance requirements outlined in the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass 2016.
This page will not describe the specifics of the rule. Information can be found on the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) website (Vehicle dimensions and mass | NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (nzta.govt.nz)).
Many of CODC’s roads are unsuitable for heavy vehicles, and restrictions have been imposed to protect the district’s roads and bridges from overloading. For a list of posted bridges click HERE.
Vehicles exceeding any of the mass or dimension limits in the Rule or Council bridge postings, will not be allowed to operate on CODC roads, unless they are eligible for one of the following:
- Over-dimension vehicles or load permit
- Over-weight vehicles or load permit
- High productivity motor vehicles (HPMVs)
To apply for an over-dimension or over-weight permit, please complete this FORM: and email to: overweightpermits@codc.govt.nz.
Council will review the application and advise if the vehicle, load and proposed route is eligible for a permit. In certain circumstances additional conditions may be required.
Note: HPMV permits are issued by NZTA
For HPMV permits please visit: High productivity motor vehicles and permits | NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (nzta.govt.nz).
For Overdimension permits please visit: Application for an overdimension permit | NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi..
