Bitumen Flushing/Bleeding on Central Otago roads
With the recent prolonged hot weather, we are starting to see areas of flushing and bleeding on the roading network. This appears as a shiny and sticky road surface that is noticeable when driving over, due to higher pavement temperatures making the bitumen in the road surface more fluid. This is generally a short-term issue and tends return to normal once pavement temperatures reduce.
We’ve identified some trouble spots on Springvale Road and on the Poolburn hill. These have been treated with a lime product, which can be mistaken for a spill on the road.
Our contractors are monitoring the network daily however if you see any problems in your local area please contact CODC Customer Services: Phone: (03) 440 0056.Email: info@codc.govt.nz
Please take care by reducing speed and increasing your following distances.
