Building Inspections update – Tuesday 23 July 2024
Frustrated that you can’t get a building inspection when you need it?
We really do understand and are desperately trying to address this challenge as the building team respond to a high demand of inspection requests. Unfortunately, the building team will be experiencing some resourcing challenges over the next couple of months, which is likely to continue to affect inspections times.
We are currently settling in new staff and recruiting others, and this does take time, while also trying to ensure that what we see in inspections meets the building code requirements. To reduce the impacts on you, external contractors have already been engaged to assist in the processing of building consents to enable the CODC team to continue to prioritise inspections.
We understand that any delays are frustrating, and we cannot simply accept photos for jobs as yet: These still need somebody someone to look at them in a timely manner to avoid unexpected challenges occurring for all parties. We are looking at ways on how to address the fluctuating waiting times, and the current times can be found on the Council website: https://www.codc.govt.nz/services/building/building-inspections.
We would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding during this challenging time, and apologies if we cannot meet your expectations at this time.
Please continue to be kind to the team, who are trying hard to meet your needs.
