Alexandra Cemetery, dating back to1865 to the very beginning of European settlement, will soon need to provide more resting places, and with that in mind the Council is planning to extend the road through the cemetery (see marked in red in aerial photo below) towards the Fulton Hogan boundary.
Work is scheduled to begin around 31 March and will take approximately two weeks to complete with pauses for burials and interments.
The cemetery blocks in use are expected to reach full capacity within the next few years, so we are progressing with the development of the next block.
Initial earthworks were undertaken a few months ago, and now it's time to extend the road.
Vegetation screening will be planted along the cemetery boundary to create a well-established, private, and peaceful environment. This planting is scheduled for autumn.
We thank you in advance for your understanding as we undertake this important work.
