Work will commence this coming Monday 14 June on a much anticipated makeover for Lodge Lane in Clyde. This is another piece of the work related to the Clyde Heritage Precinct Upgrade (work got underway last month on opening up the walkway from Matau Street to Miners Lane and extending Miners Lane to be a one-way through road). The upgrade to Lodge Lane to create a shared public space aims to create a central community hub at the ‘heart’ of Clyde. This was consulted on with the community through Council’s last 10-Year Plan in 2018.
As part of the Lodge Lane upgrade car parking on the lane and the gravel section behind the lodge will be removed. The road area and footpaths will be levelled and resurfaced, creating a much more flexible pedestrian and cycle-friendly space. The area will also be better suited for events and public gatherings. Planting, lighting and street furniture will be going in, including bike stands and an e-bike charging station.
The lane will be closed to traffic until further notice with a detour via Naylor and Holloway Streets. Access to public toilets for pedestrians will still be available the majority of the time. Note there will be new toilets going in behind the Masonic Lodge around September/October this year and toilets are in the plans for the Clyde River Park later next year.
The estimated time for the current roading work at Lodge Lane (and accompanying road closure) is three months, allowing for current wait times on some materials.
The work has been scheduled for the quieter winter period to cause the least disruption to business and the community and come spring the new and improved space will be blossoming! We know there are a lot of road cones in Clyde right now and we really appreciate your patience and understanding as we undertake these projects.
