Chorus and CODC bringing more art to your neighbourhood
The call is out for local artists to beautify Chorus cabinets with murals in the Central Otago district.
Chorus is once again partnering with Central Otago District Council to transform five cabinets in Central Otago and artists are encouraged to get their designs in before the deadline of 31 August.
Last year’s project was so successful that Chorus and Central Otago District Council and the Central Otago District Arts Trust are now looking to extend its reach further.
Chorus Community Relations Manager Jo Seddon says that it makes sense to partner with local councils, as they have the same goal in mind when it comes to street beautification.
“It is great to work with local councils when it comes to choosing cabinets and designs as they know what their community needs,” she says.
“Central Otago District Council and the Central Otago District Arts Trust have nominated a further five cabinets this year and we’re really looking forward to seeing what local artists come up with.”
These cabinets become works of art in the street, often telling stories about the communities in which they are located and help beautify the local area.
Parks Officer Nikki Aaron, alongside Arts Trust Coordinator Rebekah de Jong will again be co-ordinating designs and artists this year. Nikki says it is a great opportunity for artists to showcase their talents to not only the Central Otago community but also the wider world.
“This is a win-win for our communities. Not only do we get fantastic art works in our streetscape, but it also provides work and promotion of our local artists,” Nikki said.
Requests for designs are now open and the winning design for each cabinet will be chosen from entries received.

All finished art will be included on the Chorus website and will be considered for the 2023 Chorus Cabinet Art calendar, copies of which are sent around the world.
