$3 Million Boost to Central Otago Projects
The Central Otago District Council (CODC) has been approved $3.21 million worth of projects from Central Government funding.
At the Council meeting on Wednesday 24 August 2022 a list of projects was considered and put forward for the first tranche of Better Off funding as part of the Three Waters Reform programme. This funding package is designed to support local government and community wellbeing in the transition to a new water services delivery system and to position councils for the future. The Council heard today (Friday 2 December) that it had been successful. The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) has approved all the Council’s projects, which include:
Iwi/Māori engagement to meet Tranche 2 requirements ($50,000), Community Wellbeing Framework and Indicator Dataset ($90,000), Progressing of the records digitisation of rateable property files ($251,500), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) installed at libraries district-wide ($361,000), Alexandra and Cromwell pool liners and Cromwell Pool sand filter ($400,000), Roxburgh Pool fencing project ($108,000), Alexandra Community Centre earthquake strengthening and stage upgrades ($584,500), Clyde Hall kitchen and accessible bathroom, fire system upgrade and double glazing ($182,500), Council-owned buildings seismic assessments and other compliance reports ($320,000), Alexandra Library Renovation project ($611,500), and the Cromwell Bike Park Toilets project ($235,000).
“We are thrilled to receive this money towards projects that will directly benefit Central Otago communities, CODC Chief Executive Sanchia Jacobs said.
“This has been a very welcome early Christmas present towards those projects and mean we can enter the new year really getting on and doing the mahi.
“As each project progresses, we will look forward to sharing with the community more about the delivery timelines and when they can expect to see them fully implemented.”
