Breen Construction has made a start on site preparation in the Charlemont Street, Ranfurly carpark for the new six-pan public toilet, with the prefabricated toilet block expected to be delivered to site on Monday 26 June 2023.
The carpark will still be available with limited parking spaces until Sunday 25 June. It will then be closed for two to three days to allow the prefab building to be delivered and craned onto the prepped site.
On each side, the new toilet block has one disabled unisex family toilet cubicle and two standard unisex cubicles. The accessible toilet has the required handrails for wheelchair users to meet the building code. When completed there will be the provision for a disabled car park on both sides of the toilet block with direct access into the disabled unisex family toilet cubicle.
There will also be a track created from the rail trail onto the car park for cyclists and the provision of bike stands. This work along with the repainting of the carpark spaces might not be completed until after the weather warms up.
The new toilet block project is funded 50/50 jointly between Central Otago District Council through the Long-term Plan 2021/2031 and a grant from the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment Tourism Infrastructure Fund.
The siting of the new toilet block was undertaken with the Māniototo Breakfast Business group and the artwork on the outside of the toilet was done in conjunction with Māniatoto Arts Council with an art deco theme celebrating all things “Ranfurly”.
Once the new toilet block has been commissioned the old toilet block located at the Ranfurly Railway Station will be decommissioned and repurposed.
