VCB selects community ideas for consideration in LTP
At its meeting on Monday 12 June, the Vincent Community Board reviewed 18 ideas and comments received in response to the Central Otago District Council’s online engagement process that asked for community ideas for projects or initiatives that could feed into Council’s Long-term Plan development process.
The Board agreed to incorporate a number of community ideas for consideration in the draft long-term planning budgets and work programme. These included supporting a community initiative for the removal and restoration of trees along the Kamaka walkway, and the coordination of staged planting of native trees by the Clyde River Park.
The Board instructed staff to consider the idea of an adventure/destination playground in Alexandra in the development of the Council’s Play Strategy. This Play Strategy will determine functional play areas across the district and their design.
They also want to encourage the refurbished Alexandra Library (with new internal access toilets, one to be accessible) to be a warm and safe community gathering space for a variety of needs.
In response to community requests for a multisport complex at Molyneux Park, Council staff will be looking into pending operating costs for Molyneux Stadium, such as earthquake strengthening, cladding and asbestos removal, as a first stage to assess efficient spending into the future.
At the meeting, Vincent Community Board chair Cr Tamah Alley, said she was impressed with the level of community input and hopes to see it continue through the LTP process.
