Bringing cabinet art to life in Central Otago
The Chorus Cabinet Art Programme, in partnership with Central Otago District Council is back to give local artists the opportunity to showcase their artwork in the district.
Four cabinets throughout the district have been chosen and artists are encouraged submit their designs before the deadline of 31 August 2023.
Last year’s project was so successful that Chorus and Central Otago District Council have partnered again to extend its reach further.
Chorus Community Relations Manager Jo Seddon says it makes sense to partner with local councils when it comes to choosing cabinets and designs as they know what their community needs.
“Central Otago District Council has nominated a further four cabinets this year and we’re really looking forward to seeing what local artists come up with.”
These cabinets become works of art in the street, telling stories about the communities they are located in, and helping to discourage tagging.
Mayor Tim Cadogan says he’s very pleased to welcome back the cabinet art programme to the Central Otago district this year.
“This programme is a win-win for our communities. Not only do we get fantastic art works in our streetscape, but it also provides work and promotion of our local artists.”
Submissions are now open till 31 August and the winning design for each cabinet will be chosen from entries received.
