Smarten up for Alexandra Pool - Update 6 September 2023
The Alexandra Pool is about to get a mini upgrade with the installation of new pool liners.
Operating a pool had many components from heating and pumping water, through to lifeguards and building maintenance, Central Otago District Council Group Manager – Community Experience David Scoones said.
“The Alexandra Pool is now over 20 years old and while the lifespan of a pool is much longer than that, there are a few maintenance things the Council has to do along the way to maximise the pool’s longevity.”
One of those things was replacing the liners. The pool will go through a mini upgrade, which will involve the replacement of both the lap and learners’ pools liners during September and October.
UPDATED DATES:
- Replacement of the learn to swim pool liner will take place from 8 - 21 September.
- Replacement of the lap pool liner will take place from 22 September - 8 October.
The work has been staggered to minimise disruption, and to ensure the learn to swim pool is open for the school holidays, as this was the most popular of the pools during holiday periods. It would also allow the Council to run learn to swim programmes during the holidays, CODC Parks and Recreation Manager Gordon Bailey said.
“These new liners are very much needed and will greatly enhance the appearance of the Alexandra Pool. We appreciate people’s patience as we improve our facilities for our community.”
The lap pool liner was funded through the Government’s Better Off Funding scheme, and the learners pool through CODC) budgets. The cost of both liners and installation is about $330,000.
