The Ranfurly Wastewater Pipe Renewals project is set to start next week (25 January 2024).
The project, to be undertaken by the Central Otago District Council (CODC), is to renew underground assets and mitigate infiltration, caused by leakage of ground water and stormwater into the wastewater pipes. This negatively impacts the performance of the Ranfurly wastewater treatment plant, CODC Capital Projects Programme Manager Patrick Keenan said.
“We’re looking forward to getting out and undertaking this work in Ranfurly to improve the resilience of the community’s wastewater infrastructure.”
Estimated to cost $1.4million, the Ranfurly wastewater renewal project was awarded to SouthRoads Limited in December last year, as part of the ongoing improvements to Central Otago’s water services infrastructure.
Work will be carried out street by street until June, with about 750 metres of new wastewater piping to be installed in the Ranfurly township and should only cause minor disruption. Work will also be undertaken to improve lateral pipe connections from the newly-laid main pipelines to the boundary of private properties.
The Council will be regularly talking to affected residents and business owners and advising the public of temporary road closures.
The first closure will be the northbound lane between Knowles Crescent and John Street on Thursday 25 January for up to two weeks. The southbound lane will remain open. All residents will have access to their properties at all times.
A detour route will be signposted via John Street – Northland Street – Thomas Street – Dungannon Street (Site 2).
