Proposed changes to community board delegations begins
This week the Central Otago District Council (CODC) has begun to discuss proposed changes to community board delegations with elected members.
The Council is asking the district’s four community boards, Vincent, Cromwell, Maniototo and Teviot Valley their opinion on proposed changes to their role in decision-making that would better align with the Local Government legislation governing their powers.
It is proposed that much of the delegated authority given to community boards be returned to Council. The scope of influence of the community boards would be increased under the proposal with the Boards being tasked with advocating and advising Council from a grassroots level on matters currently not within their delegations.
At the Vincent Community Board meeting (held Tuesday morning 23 January 2024), members agreed with the proposed amendments.
At the Cromwell Community Board meeting (held Tuesday afternoon 23 January 2024), members agreed to provide a submission on the proposed changes.
Tomorrow (Thursday 25 January) the Maniototo Community Board will meet to discuss the delegations proposal, and the Teviot Valley Community Board will meet Thursday 8 February. Live link to the meeting: Meetings - Central Otago District Council (codc.govt.nz).
Once feedback and any submissions from boards are received, they will be collated into a report that will be presented to Council at their February 2024 meeting.
