The
Cromwell Rising Main project is progressing as planned with 60% of the total
pipe length installed.
At
the Neplusultra Street end, installation has entered the Bruce Street greenway.
Access through the reserve will still be available, and people are asked to
please follow signage and pass through with care.
At
the other end of the project, pipe installation is underway along the shoulder
of State Highway 8B (SH8B) toward the Big Fruit reserve.
The
Central Otago District Council (CODC) contractor HEB will be establishing a
work site within the Big Fruit carpark off Murray Terrace from Wednesday 19
June to allow installation of pipe through a pre-installed conduit under SH8B.
A
section of this carpark is required to be closed during this stage of works
(see map below). This will be followed with further disruption to Murray Terrace
and Lode Lane in early July. Alternative parking is available in the Illes St area. Further updates are to come.
The
Council has received public feedback about the removal of the plantings at the
State Highway 6 and SH8B roundabout, CODC Capital Projects Programme Manager
Patrick Keenan said.
“CODC
worked with NZTA during the design phase of the pipeline, and prioritised
significant issues such as installing conduit pipe
under State Highway 8B to avoid digging up the new road again. HEB will insert the water main through the conduit to
avoid major disruption to traffic.
“Minor
issues such as the planting were completed in full, with the intention of
providing temporary transplanting for only the area needed during construction.
HEB
and its sub-contractor Whitestone are taking care of the plants until they can
be returned to the site, as they were.
“We
appreciate your patience during this disruption as we complete this significant
infrastructure project for Cromwell.”
