Rates, Fees and Charges to be considered at next Council meeting
The Council meets next week Wednesday 26 June to set the rates for the 2024-2025 financial year.
As part of the Annual Plan consultation, the Central Otago District Council will also be setting the Fees and Charges schedule for 2024-25.
The proposed schedule can be found on: Annual Plan 2024-2025 | Let’s Talk Central Otago (codc.govt.nz)
The changes to fees and charges are primarily driven by increased costs in electricity, fuel and insurance, in line with rising costs being seen across New Zealand. Unfortunately, Council cannot absorb these cost pressures, and this is reflected in a change in the cost in a range of our fees and charges.
Council has a financing policy that provides guidance on whether fees are full user pays or partly rate funded and partly user pays. An example of this is dog control based on zero contribution from the rate payer, however, pools are partly rate funded and partly user pays.
Some proposed changes in key activities include:

- Capital contributions for new connections - urban and rural
- Development contributions for new connections - Lake Dunstan Water Supply, Cromwell, Naseby, Omakau/Ophir, Patearoa, Roxburgh and Ranfurly.
