Just in time to take advantage of the spectacular early autumn weather, the revamped, well-loved Grover's Hill Walkway has reopened and is ready to receive feet!
Over the past two years, the Teviot Valley Walkways Committee,
with the help of some Council funding, has been beavering away to improve the
existing walking trails around Roxburgh by upgrading infrastructure, enhancing
signage, and ensuring accessibility.
Recent work at Grover's Hill has significantly improved the track
surface up to the top of Frog Peak. Additionally, modifications at the top of
the Zig-Zag Track have helped reduce the steepness of the final ascent. The
work is now complete.
New signage will soon be installed at King George Park in
Roxburgh, allowing visitors to choose between a loop around Grover's Hill or a
scenic route along the Roxburgh River Track to Tweed Street. Funding for this
signage was provided by a grant from Transpower.
Further improvements have also been made at both ends of the river
track, completing the section leading to the Tweed Street Bridge and finalising
work at the reserve near the bridge. A grant from the Ida MacDonald fund
helped with some of the extension on the river track at the Tweed
St end. The bank alongside the track at the pool end will be planted with natives in due course.
