Mayors Taskforce for Jobs
Working with communities to get young people into sustainable employment.
The Mayors Taskforce for Jobs provides support and funding to both young jobseekers and employers, helping to reduce barriers to employment.
The programme is a partnership between Central Otago District Council, Local Government NZ and the Ministry of Social Development.
Who the support is for:
The support is for NZ Citizens and resident-visa holders who are:
- Aged between 16-24
- Living within the Central Otago District
- Not in employment, education or training OR
- Are at-risk of becoming unemployed

Jobseekers - what the programme includes
The unique needs and circumstances of each young person are taken into consideration, and individualised support plans are created. This support may include any of the following:
- Finding a job vacancy
- Application support
- Liaising with potential employers
- CV building
- Interview Skills
- Training courses
- Work experience
- Drivers licensing
- Work clothing and equipment
- Ongoing support once in employment
Employers - what the programme includes
The MTFJ Coordinator supports employers by:
- matching suitable candidates with vacancies
- work gear & training support for new employees
- ongoing pastoral support during the transition period and beyond to help ensure a long-term outcome
- a contribution towards training/induction costs for permanent 30+ hour/week roles
- support applying for any eligible MSD products (e.g. flexi-wage subsidies)
