NASEBY: CONSERVE WATER NOTICE LIFTED - updates
UPDATE NASEBY - Thursday 30 January 2025, 11.45am
Great news! The Naseby reservoir is back to full capacity!
We are pleased to advise that the Conserve Water Notice has been lifted, and the Watch the Drop Restriction level is now at green!
A huge thank you to our amazing community for your efforts over the past 5 days. Your cooperation has made a significant difference!
Even with the green drop level, it’s essential for all of our communities to continue using water wisely and valuing this precious resource. Let’s keep up the great work and continue to be water-wise!

UPDATE NASEBY - Monday 27 January 2025 9.50am
The (Hawdun) irrigation company worked on the damaged race through Saturday and Sunday but had to pause due to unsafe weather conditions. They are back at it today and expect to have water to the treatment plant late tomorrow morning (Tuesday 28 January 2025).
Please note, the initial water may be dirty and could delay water production.
The reservoir is steadily dropping, but at a low rate. Thank you to the community for your efforts to save water.
To ensure we do not drop to unmanageable levels, we will start topping up the reservoir with tankered water later today
Omakau and Ranfurly: a reminder that you are on orange drop status. Both treatment plants are currently unable to produce water due to dirty water from the rain.

UPDATE NASEBY - Sunday 26 January 2025, 12pm
We were able to continue producing water through the night, but as of early this morning, we are now running off stored water.
We can see the efforts the community is making to reduce water use, and the demand is currently low, helping to stretch that stored water for as long as needed.
Thank you for your understanding.
We will provide another update tomorrow (27 January 2025) before midday.

UPDATE NASEBY: CONSERVE WATER NOTICE issued – Saturday 25 January 2025 - 4PM
URGENT RESTRICTIONS APPLY
There has been a significant break in the Hawkdun Irrigation Race, which supplies water to Naseby. Hawkdun Irrigation is working on this, but it is expected that there will be an interruption to the water supply for two days. Once repaired, the water is likely to be very dirty which could impact treatment.
Currently there is still water coming through the race. The reservoir is full, and we have been producing treated water to keep up with demand. This is expected to change in the next few hours, and we will shift to reservoir storage. We estimate that there is sufficient reservoir water to last around three days, which we need to stretch out for another couple of days. We need your help to achieve this.
We are increasing water restrictions to the RED DROP.
The Red Drop means:
- Total ban on all outdoor water use – no sprinklers/irrigation/car washing/playing in the hose
- If it’s yellow let it mellow
- Short showers – 4 min max.
- Only a full dishwasher load
- Delay putting on the washing machine
We will provide a status update by midday on Sunday (26 January 2025).
Please help spread to the word by talking to friends, family and neighbours.

Original message - approx 10.30am Saturday 25 January 2025
To Naseby residents please restrict water use NOW.
There is an issue with the water race that supplies raw water to the plant for treatment and requires urgent attention.
While this work is being carried out, the plant will not be able to produce drinking water for up to two days.
We need the community to really reduce the water usage to ONLY ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES as we will be relying on stored water in reservoirs during this time.
Saving water can be as simple as turning off the tap when you’re brushing your teeth or shaving, keeping your showers short and avoiding outdoor water use - this means a TOTAL sprinkler ban, and watering by hand only.
We will update the community further when more information comes to hand.
In the meantime, thank you for your patience.
Please help spread to the word by talking to friends, family and neighbours.
